Tatiana Demishkevich B.H.Sc. R.M.

Hello, my name is Tatiana and I am originally from Ukraine. That is where I was born, grew up and received my first degree in physics and then in midwifery.

After completing my midwifery education in 1995, I moved to Russia with my spouse, where I practiced in a hospital setting for 5 years. I found it very frustrating that I could not provide real support to moms throughout their births as the hospital system did not support one-to-one care.

Therefore, after 5 years of practice, I joined a group of community midwives, who attended homebirths. There I was providing continuous care from the beginning of the pregnancy to approximately 1-2 months postpartum.  We ran prenatal classes for our clients and used alternative therapies.

After researching midwifery in Canada I found that I am able and welcome to practice in both home and hospital settings.  This was very appealing to me and I completed the one-year Canadian bridging program and was registered as an Ontario midwife in 2007.

There I practiced midwifery in rural practices of Ottawa area.

I have never felt that midwifery is a job, for me midwifery is a life style, a personal belief in childbirth and a wish to assist women in their journeys through their labor and birth. I love it and it is an essential part of my life.

I am married and have 3 children. My family is very supportive in my passion for midwifery – even if their mom has to leave in the middle of a family birthday party in order to help another give birth!

I am very excited with this great opportunity to serve families in Kamloops and look forward to meeting community women and becoming part of the community myself.
